I must admit something about the packaging and the by-line made
me cautious and prevented this release from ever making it into
my DVD player until now. The mere title suggested I be running
for earplugs.
I am afraid in this instance I did well to judge the book by its
cover – all my fears have been realised. A messy “fusion”
of sorts - styles mixed together without any thought or sensibility
for any of the genres involved. While the didgeridoo can be a
versatile instrument, it doesn’t by any stretch of the imagination
manage to hold together interest amongst this melange of trance
beats. A grand lack of concept of a level matched only by the
visual presentation. Why did the makers of this DVD think that
any discerning individual would find the shadowy image of a pointing
finger on a background of out of focus Australiana landscape interesting
at all to watch? Maybe they are trying to reproduce the bush doof
experience. Well, all I can say is, there is a good reason then
why people take certain drugs to endure some experiences.
Didgeridoo music, unfortunately, has been reduced to background
ambience for the doof generation. I am all for the integration
of all instruments and the fusion of such with electronica and
done well it can be satisfying to listen to or dance to, but on
this DVD, the combination fails to reach beyond mediocrity. I’m
sorry… a big thumbs down for this piece of shameless exploitation
of both content and medium. Cristina Dio
