At first glance I was
sure that this "exotic collection where east meets west"
would be the firm favourite of any chardonnay sipping hippie who
has run away to Byron Bay to work though their mid life crisis.
While I still believe that to be true, I must confess that I was
pleasantly suprised by the calibre of artists featured in this
compilation. Featuring the likes of Govinda, Lotus, Ikarus and
Omar Faruk, Buddha Cafe is a slick production that blends the
sounds of chillout and downtempo electronica with a hint of eastern
instrumentation and vocal performance. Continuing in the tradition
of "chillout" compilations Buddha Cafe is not venturing
too far into unfamilar territory although it will certainly have
an appeal to devotees of the genre.
