La
Barberia Del Sur, a quartet
of gitano musicians have a more accessible sound with a bit more
emphasis on the back-beat, swirling Brazilian rhythms, Spanish
popular song and of course, flamenco soul, but they're no less
enjoyable because of that. Great vocals, arrangements, rhythms
and songs make great music in my book. Their Nuevos
Medios Coleccion release also
boasts the best flamenco-salsa fusion I've ever heard, the totally
addictive "Rosario Dinamitera". This update actually
contains four highly recommended Spanish releases. I remember
only a couple of years ago the only thing Iberian to cross my
desk was disposable commodity music. Under no circumstances should
the reader omit the review of Javier Ruibal's "Sahara"
in the review section.
