Lejania
Inti-Illimani celebrate 30 years together with their new release,
Lejania (XENO4051). On this album, the seven musicians of this
legendary Chilean group return to their first love: the simple,
exquisite folk music of the Andes mountains in South America.
With delicate, haunting melodies played on bamboo flutes, saxophones,
and clarinets mixed with the subtly shifting rhythms carved out
on guitars, charango and hammered dulcimer, Lejania comes to life.
Inti-Illimani's music has intoxicated audiences around the globe
for three decades. Their sound has been flavored by the indigenous
cultures of Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina. In some
of the poorest, purest and most ancient cultures they discovered
Andean music and the group's unique voice was born.
Inti-Illimani have performed with artists from all walks of musical
life. They have appeared on Amnesty International stages with
Bruce Springsteen, Mercedes Sosa, Sting, Wynton Marsalis and Peter
Gabriel. Their 1996 release, Arriesgaré la Piel (XENO4049),
was highlighted by European performances with John Williams and
Paco Peña and a special anniversary concert at the Kennedy
Center featuring the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacionale de Puerto Rico.
With Lejania, their 30th release, Inti-Illimani is at the peak
of perfection.
