Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare have been the
driving force behind literally hundreds of thousands of songs
since they first partnered up in Jamaica in 1975 with their distinctive
drum and bass rhythms. Aside from working with nearly every reggae
act in existence, the duo has also recorded with Grace Jones,
Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Herbie Hancock, and scored big with
a mainstream hit of their own in the late ‘80s, “(Boops)
Here To Go.” As a production team, the pair has been on
the cutting edge of modern dub, ragga, pop, and dancehall throughout
their 30-year career, and won a GRAMMY for Friends in 1998. On
The Dub, the collaboration with the brilliant reggae mix master
the Mad Professor, Sly & Robbie demonstrate their decades
earned talent playing instrumental dub music live and direct to
tape. The Dub Revolutionaries was recorded at the Mad Professor’s
legendary Ariwa studios in London in homage to the ‘70s
era analog sound that was popularized in Philadelphia soul music.
The 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13,
at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast
live (details to follow). GRAMMY ballots for the final round of
voting will be mailed on Dec. 15 to the voting members of The
Recording Academy. They are due back to the accounting firm of
Deloitte by Jan. 12, 2005, when they will be tabulated and the
results kept secret until the telecast.
